John Posey, CFP®, AIF®, AFFP

Financial Planner – founder & ceo

Background

Growing up helping on the farm taught John the importance of planning for uncertainty and building something that lasts—principles he now applies to helping families create lasting financial security.

With over 20 years of experience in financial services, John has worked in locally-owned community banks, accounting firms, and Fortune 500 organizations. In each role, he saw the same challenge: hardworking families needed specialized guidance from someone that understood their unique circumstances without pressure or incentives from corporate to push products, particularly as they experience transitions from work and business. That insight led him to launch Plains Advisory in 2019, creating a firm dedicated to helping clients invest smarter, plan for the future, and leave a meaningful legacy.

Beyond the Office

When he’s not helping clients invest and plan for their financial future, you’ll likely find John playing basketball at the YMCA, coaching one of his kids’ youth sports teams, or out on the golf course or fishing. He’s also an avid college football and basketball fan and enjoys traveling. And he always makes time for an annual golf outing with the guys no matter how unrespectable his golf game has become 🙂 . For John, staying active and spending time with family isn’t just about work-life balance—it’s about living the kind of life he helps his clients work toward.

Education & Credentials

As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Accredited Investment Fiduciary®, John holds a financial planning certificate from Kaplan University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He also earned the Agriculture Focused Financial Planning (AFFP) professional designation from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, equipping him with specialized knowledge to serve farm families. John is an active member of the Financial Planning Association of Nebraska.

Krystal Posey

operations coordinator

Background

Growing up in western Nebraska where her family still farms, Krystal learned early on that the best solutions come from working together and thinking creatively when challenges arise. Whether coordinating with others or finding efficient ways to solve issues, she brings a collaborative, problem-solving mindset to her role as Operations Coordinator at Plains Advisory.

After spending over a decade in public education, Krystal has transitioned her expertise in planning, problem-solving, and people management to help ensure Plains Advisory runs smoothly behind the scenes. She serves as the liaison between Plains Advisory and Charles Schwab, managing back-office operations so that clients receive seamless, professional service.

Beyond the Office

Krystal and her husband John are busy raising six children, which means life is never dull. When she’s not coordinating operations at Plains Advisory, you’ll find her out for a run, chasing kids, or cheering them on at their various activities. And like any parent managing a household of eight, she’s powered by a really good cup of morning coffee – often from Blue Rock or Starbucks.

Coming from a farming family herself, Krystal understands the values and work ethic that drive many of Plains Advisory’s clients—and she’s committed to supporting them with the same care and dedication she brings to everything she does.

Education

Krystal holds a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and an educational specialist degree in school psychology from the University of Nebraska-Kearney. She will attest that her advanced education serves as a nice compliment to John’s modest level of intelligence 🙂 .

Her background in education has given her a unique perspective on clear communication, careful planning, and the importance of building trust—all essential qualities in financial services operations.
